SCA Coffee Skills Program

Through our specialty coffee brand Dilworth Coffee, we offer both beginner and certified barista training as part of the Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Program. Courses are designed exclusively for specialty coffee professionals who are interested in advancing their coffee skills and earning an SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.

DILWORTH COFFEE UNIVERSITY INTRODUCTION TO COFFEE AND ESPRESSO

This full-day course is a great starting point for new baristas and coffee business owners. Trace coffee’s journey from seed to cup, touring our roasting facility and tasting the end results. In our hands-on workshop, attendees will practice the steps needed to properly prepare drip coffee and espresso, steam and texture milk, and combine them to make customers’ favorite drinks. We also include Q&A time with our coffee business experts.

No prior experience is necessary. All attendees receive a copy of our Introduction to Coffee and Espresso handbook. Course is taught by our Specialty Coffee Association Authorized Trainer, Brady Butler.

Certificate and Exams: This course includes the opportunity to take the written exam and receive an SCA Introduction to Coffee Certificate plus 10 points toward a Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Diploma.

SPECIALTY COFFEE ASSOCIATION BARISTA FOUNDATION COURSE

Taught by our Authorized SCA Trainer, Brady Butler, this full-day barista training course introduces participants to the fundamental skills needed to properly prepare espresso, steam and texture milk, and efficiently combine them to make lattes, cappuccinos, and more. No prior experience is necessary, though Introduction to Coffee and Espresso is recommended. All attendees receive our Introduction to Coffee and Espresso Handbook.

Certificate and Exams: This course includes the opportunity to take the written and practical exams and receive a Barista Foundation Certificate plus 5 points toward a Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Diploma.

SPECIALTY COFFEE ASSOCIATION BREWING FOUNDATION COURSE

Taught by Brady Butler, our Authorized SCA Trainer, this full-day course introduces the beginner brewer to the core skills and equipment needed to produce great brewed coffee. Attendees will use a variety of popular brewing devices, explore how essential elements of brewing can produce properly and improperly prepared coffee, and taste the results. No prior experience is necessary though Introduction to Coffee and Espresso is recommended. All attendees receive our Dilworth Coffee Brewing Guide.

Certificate and Exams: This course includes the opportunity to take the written and practical exams and receive a Brewing Foundation Certificate plus 5 points toward a Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Diploma.

SPECIALTY COFFEE ASSOCIATION BREWING INTERMEDIATE COURSE

Taught by our Authorized SCA Trainer, Brady Butler, this two-day course introduces the use of extraction measurement tools to help improve the brewing process. Attendees will use a variety of popular brewing devices, manipulate brewing parameters to produce properly and improperly prepared coffee, analyze and taste the results. A Brewing Foundation or SCAA Barista Level 1 Certificate are highly recommended prior to taking this course.

Certificate and Exams: This course includes the opportunity to take the written and practical exams and receive a Brewing Intermediate Certificate plus 10 points toward a Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Diploma.

Course Fees: $800 + $125 (SCA Member) or $225 (Non-Member) Exam and Certificate Fee

SPECIALTY COFFEE ASSOCIATION BREWING PROFESSIONAL COURSE

Extend your knowledge of brewing coffee with this 3-day professional-level course. Attendees will use a variety of popular brewing devices and analysis tools to develop a mastery of the brewing process. Course also introduces water measurement and water treatment strategies for brewing. A Brewing Intermediate Certificate is required prior to taking this course.

On completion, you will be able to optimize the brewing process to produce excellent coffee using most popular brewing methods, manage brewed coffee quality across multiple sites.

This course is taught by our Authorized Specialty Coffee Association Trainer, Brady Butler.

Certificate and Exams: The course includes the opportunity to take the written and practical exams and receive a Brewing Professional Certificate plus 15 points toward a Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Skills Diploma.

Course Fees: $1200 + $225 (SCA Member) or $325 (Non-Member) Exam and Certificate Fee
