At the National Coffee Association Conference held last week in California the first results of their 2010 National Coffee Drinking Trends Survey was released. The good news was that US coffee consumption remained stable for the year, despite the recession. 56% of American adults consumed coffee during the past day, unchanged from 2008 and 2009.
The report states:
In 2010, 86 percent of those who drank coffee in the past day had prepared it at home, up 4 percentage points from last year. Only 26 percent of past-day coffee drinkers consumed coffee prepared away from home, down from 31 percent last year.
Consumers are also demanding higher quality coffee with survey results showing 40% of all coffee consumed is gourmet.
What does this mean for our customers? In reviewing our sales to our retail coffee customers, we have seen similar trends indicating increases in bulk coffee with fewer prepared drink sales.
While we cannot predict the future, we have been working with our customers to increase the bulk coffee sales for end-users to brew at home or at the workplace. If you cannot get the customer into your store as often, make their favorite coffees, espresso and syrups available for sale for them to take home. This is an excellent way to increase your sales and profits. Why let them buy their coffee at the grocery store when you can offer them more variety, more knowledge and expertise?
Our customer care and sales associates are ready to help you enhance your current offerings or to start a new bulk coffee program. We even have 6 count cases of our coffees in 12 oz bags.
