With so many different teas and teasans to choose from, how does
one begin to select the tea or teasan that is right for them? One
way is to try them all, until you find your “favorite.”
However, as fun as this is, it can be a time consuming process.
Well, here at Stockton Graham & Co., we have been teaching our
customers several different ways to condense this process.
First, decide if you want a tea or an herbal teasan with caffeine
or no caffeine. Most people associate a teasan as being naturally
caffeine-free, but this is not always the case. Teasans can cover
a wide variety of flavors and profiles, and are oftentimes associated
with certain therapeutic benefits. Care should be taken when selecting
a teasan for this purpose.
When selecting a tea, determine what general type you would like.
Green teas generally have a slightly more bitter, grassy taste
than the traditional black teas consumed in the United States.
Within the family, there are multiple grades between the degree
of astringency and intensity of flavors. Most green teas are drunk
as is, without adding sugar or milk.
Black teas will have similar ranges of flavor profiles from a
light sweet taste to a strong astringency; however, heavier taste
profiles of black teas can also combine with milk, sugar, lemon
or other condiments to create a wonderful drink.
Oolong teas typically have a complexity of flavors and aromas
that almost seem a waste to mask with milk or sweeteners. These
teas are excellent to drink by themselves to fully enjoy their
subtle nuance of flavors.
But whatever tea you enjoy, we suggest that you take the time
to savor them before the addition of milk and cream. Also, try
them with different foods and at different times of day. Our associates
here at Stockton Graham & Co. will be happy to assist you
with finding the teas that are right for your establishment.
