Selva Negra is the one greatest examples of sustainablility in the world of coffee. The farm has good working conditions. It provides for the workers by giving them above average housing system (in Nicaragua this means concrete houses, with concrete or tiled floor, kitchen with chimney and washing place, etc.), an elementary school for workers kids, and a scholarship program for those who want to continue education. There are also two baseball teams (one for adults and one for young kids), a health clinic with a full time nurse and medicine supplies, women's health and birth control programs, garbage disposal systems, transportation, electricity, and food supplies for those who work at the farm.
The elementary school is one we have supported over the years through donations of technology and supplies, so we thought, what better way to share our holiday spirit than by helping out again! This money will go towards school supplies, books, new computers, and any other necessary items the school may need.
